Fab idea. Ok, so I when I talk to God I ask for stuff – reach out to more people, teach more, help solve the problems of the world or at least for pullers and pickers. Then today I got an interesting thought, I will ask God – “What do you want me to do today?” Wooow what a shift! I stopped asking for what I wanted and asked what God wanted from me? If you believe in God or a higher power or whatever it is you call God, try that and see what happens. Perhaps try that when you need to pull or pick. Trust me when I say God is always listening. We need to learn to listen to God. BTW - Merriest of Holidays. Much love, Joan

December 21, 2011Oprah’s Life Class
October 27, 2011Is anyone watching Oprah’s life class on her OWN network? Life lessons truly apply to pulling and picking. What you learn about yourself, what you learn about being real with yourself and others can decrease pulling and calm your nervous system. Remember, fear, secrecy, shame, anger strengthen trich. Taking back your power, courage, strength, coming out ( about trich when you are ready) weaken trich. - remember everyone has issues. No one is perfect. Far from it. How are you going to be strong today? How are you going to weaken trich? Trich wants you. It wants to control you. Take a small step today to take back control. Breathe thru an urge for 30 seconds. Allow the urge to travel down and out your feet into the earth. Try it! All the best, Joan
A Conversation
October 19, 2011What if you could have a conversation with the pulling or picking? After you yelled at it and told it to go away, what question would you ask it? Would you ask “Why are you torturing me?” “Why me?” “Why can’t I stop?” “Why don’t my parents understand that I can’t stop?” Have a conversation with the urge to pull or pick or anxiety. Become a researcher. Have a conversation with “it”. What did you discover about yourself. There is ALWAYS something to learn in dispar until you find your inner light and let it shine.
21 years Pull Free
August 3, 2010Dear World,
Today, August 4, 2010 is my 21st anniversary of being pull free. I stopped pulling out my hair August 4, 1989. I am living proof that you CAN heal from hair pulling and skin picking. I did it and you can too. Giving up is not an option. You can do this.
Find your path. It is within you. Be still and listen. As Christina Pearson founding director of the Trichotillomania Learning Center states ABSORB – Be Aware of your Body. Stop, Observe, Relax and Breathe. Read the rest of my blog. Read Christina’s blog on www.trich.org. Practice being still and observing yourself internally. The answers lie within.
All the best. Joan
Be Open to the Possibilities
June 8, 2010I have just returned from the conference on Energy Psychology in San Diego, CA. It was amazing. I learned more information on how to offer help to those who request it. Energy healing is not new tho Western medicine would have us think so. The biggest lesson I learned is that IF you are open to the possibilities of what healing could occur – no matter how impossible you may think it is to heal, forgive, change your viewpoint – stop pulling or picking – healing will occur. Be just as skeptical as you want to, but ask the questions how could relief come? Even more, how could I experience more health and abundance. Be open to asking the question. Be open to receiving the answers to your questions. Be open to the possibilities.
Impossible to Possible
March 3, 2010Whenever you get discouraged about pulling consider this quote:
“We are all faced by a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.” – Chuck Swindall
So how is hair pulling a great opportunity? What are you learning about yourself? If you stay in impossible, life will be impossible. If you consider the possibility that all things are possible where does that take you?

Trichotillmania – Like a drug
January 26, 2010Trichotillomania -
It occurred to me today after meeting with client who pulls, that trichotillomania acts like a drug. It relieves stress. It helps people feel good. It helps people zone out and go into a “trich fog”. It acts like a drug for the brain. Is it any wonder that people have difficulty stopping pulling? One solution is to find other healthy options other than pulling to feel good. One client is going to use a baby brush or rubber bristle brush to stimulate her finger tips when she wants to pull. She will get sensory input and save hairs. So here is a strategy to try.
Have a great day. Joan
Small Goals Lead to Forever
January 18, 2010I like to think of affirmations that may be helpful to get you through stress or a hair pulling episode. Thinking about my own recovery from trichotillomania I couldn’t help but be surprised that 20 years have flown by. Yes, it has been over 20 years since I pulled my hair. August 4, 1989 to be exact. So when someone is learning how to stop pulling or deal with life in general think “Small goals lead to e.” Set small goals for yourself and you will be surprised at what the add up to. Warmest best wishes, Joan Kaylor I like to think of affirmations that may be helpful to get you through stress or a hair pulling episode. Trichotillomania
January 3, 2010Hello Everyone,
The hardest thing about healing from trichotillomania is staying motivated. Why would anyone want to stop doing something that feels good, is soothing, helps calm and helps us think when we are in the midst of working and creating. Even as you read this you may be pulling and be unaware. As a former puller and now therapist, one of my greatest challenges is helping people stop pulling.
